Why is my Zanussi dishwasher not draining?
Water pooling in your Zanussi dishwasher means the drain system is blocked or faulty. Most drainage issues are caused by food debris or kinks in the drain hose. Follow these steps to identify and fix the problem.
Most likely causes
- 35% Food particles accumulate in the filter, preventing water from draining.
- 25% The rubber hose behind or under the dishwasher is bent, restricting water flow.
- 20% Debris has entered the pump impeller, stopping it from working.
- 12% The kitchen sink drain is blocked, backing water into the dishwasher.
- 8% The electronic valve controlling water release has malfunctioned.
How to diagnose it
- 1
Stop the cycle
Press the cancel or stop button immediately. Open the door carefully to avoid water spillage onto your floor.
- 2
Check the filter basket
Locate the cylindrical filter at the bottom centre of the tub. Unscrew or twist it anticlockwise and remove any visible food, hair, or debris.
- 3
Rinse the filter
Hold it under running water and use a soft brush to clean the mesh. Check the fine mesh filter inside and clean it separately if present.
- 4
Inspect the spray arms
Remove the spray arm and check the holes are clear of debris. Use a cocktail stick to unblock any small openings if needed.
- 5
Locate the drain hose
Pull the dishwasher out slightly and look behind it for the rubber drain hose. Trace it to where it connects to the sink waste or wall.
- 6
Check for kinks
Look along the entire length of the hose for bends or compression. Straighten any kinks gently by hand to restore water flow.
- 7
Run a test cycle
Push the dishwasher back into place and run a short drain or rinse cycle. Listen for the pump running and check if water drains completely.
- 8
Check kitchen sink
Run water in your kitchen sink. If it drains slowly or backs up, your sink waste pipe is blocked, not the dishwasher.
- 9
Test the drain pump
If water still won't drain, listen carefully during the cycle for a humming sound from under the tub. Silent pump means solenoid or motor failure.
