Why is my Siemens washing machine not draining?
Water not draining usually means a blockage or pump failure. Follow these steps to identify the faulty component quickly.
Most likely causes
- 45% Blocked pump filter trapping debris, coins, or fabric fibres preventing water flow.
- 25% Kinked or crushed drain hose restricting water exit from the machine.
- 20% Faulty drain pump motor not spinning to expel water.
- 10% Failed pressure switch or control board not triggering the drain cycle.
How to diagnose it
- 1
Check the drain hose
Inspect the hose at the back for kinks, twists, or cracks. Straighten any bends and ensure it's not compressed behind the machine.
💡 The hose should have a gentle downward slope to the waste pipe.
- 2
Empty the pump filter
Place a towel underneath, then locate the access panel at the front bottom. Turn the filter anticlockwise to unscrew and empty debris.
💡 Siemens filters typically unscrew by hand—use a flathead screwdriver if very tight.
- 3
Run water through filter
Rinse the filter under a tap to remove lint and fibres. Check the filter chamber opening for blockages and clean with a cloth.
💡 Look for coins or broken plastic inside the chamber.
- 4
Test drain cycle
Refit the filter, close the panel, and run a drain-only cycle (if available) or short wash. Listen for the pump motor humming.
💡 No sound = pump failure; strange noises = internal blockage.
- 5
Check standpipe height
Ensure your drain standpipe is not higher than 100cm. If too high, water cannot drain properly even with a working pump.
💡 Measure from the floor to the top of the standpipe.
