How to clean your Siemens washing machine filter
A clogged filter reduces water drainage and washing efficiency. Cleaning it takes 15 minutes and requires no tools.
Step-by-step
- 1
Turn off and unplug machine
Switch the washing machine off at the wall socket. Wait 30 seconds for residual power to drain.
💡 Always isolate the appliance before opening internal compartments.
- 2
Locate the filter door
Find the small rectangular or circular panel on the front lower right of your Siemens machine. It typically has a small handle or recess.
💡 Consult your model's manual if unsure. The filter door colour often matches the machine front.
- 3
Open the filter door carefully
Gently pull the handle or insert a coin to unlock the panel. Turn anti-clockwise if it's a threaded cap.
💡 Keep a towel nearby—residual water may spill.
- 4
Remove the filter cartridge
Twist the cylindrical filter anti-clockwise and pull it straight out. Empty any visible debris into a bin.
💡 If stuck, soak the area with warm water for 2 minutes to loosen mineral deposits.
- 5
Rinse filter under running water
Hold the filter under a warm tap. Use your finger to gently dislodge lint, hair and particles from the pleats.
💡 Run water through both the inside and outside of the filter for complete cleaning.
- 6
Clean the filter cavity
Wipe the inside of the filter housing with a damp cloth. Remove any loose debris or trapped fibres.
💡 Use an old toothbrush to scrub stubborn deposits in the cavity corners.
- 7
Reinsert and secure filter
Insert the clean filter back into the housing. Twist clockwise until snug—don't overtighten.
💡 Ensure the rubber seal sits properly for watertight closure.
- 8
Close the filter door
Push the panel back in place and secure the handle or threaded cap. Turn clockwise until it clicks.
💡 Run a drain cycle or short wash to test for leaks before returning to normal use.
