Why is my Electrolux dishwasher not draining?
A dishwasher that won't drain leaves standing water and dirty dishes. Most drainage problems are caused by blockages or a faulty pump. Follow these steps to identify and fix the issue.
Most likely causes
- 45% Food debris and grease accumulate in the filter, stopping water from flowing out.
- 25% The hose connecting to your sink trap gets twisted or pinched during installation or movement.
- 20% The pump motor fails or becomes stuck, preventing water expulsion.
- 10% Your kitchen sink's U-bend trap is blocked, backing up into the dishwasher.
How to diagnose it
- 1
Stop and empty the machine
Switch off the dishwasher immediately. Use a jug or towel to remove standing water manually.
- 2
Remove and clean filter
Open the door and locate the cylindrical filter at the bottom. Unscrew it anticlockwise and rinse under hot water to remove food debris.
- 3
Check spray arms spin freely
Replace the filter and rotate both spray arms by hand. They should turn smoothly without obstruction.
- 4
Inspect the drain hose
Locate the hose running from the dishwasher to your sink trap. Check for kinks, splits or crushed sections along its length.
- 5
Straighten kinked hose
Gently bend any twisted hose back into shape. Ensure it slopes downward to the drain without loops or high points.
- 6
Run a test cycle
Replace any removed parts and run a short drain or rinse cycle. Listen for the pump motor engaging and check for leaks.
- 7
Check kitchen sink trap
If water still won't drain, place a bucket under your sink's U-bend trap. Unscrew the cap by hand and clear any blockage inside.
