Why is my Bosch washing machine not draining?
Water trapped in your drum means a blocked filter, kinked drain hose, or faulty pump. Work through these checks to find the culprit.
Most likely causes
- 45% Blocked pump filter trapping lint, coins, or debris
- 30% Kinked or crushed drain hose restricting water flow
- 15% Faulty drain pump motor not spinning
- 10% Failed pressure switch sending incorrect signal to pump
How to diagnose it
- 1
Switch off and isolate machine
Unplug the washing machine from the wall socket. Wait 5 minutes for residual power to discharge.
💡 This ensures your safety during diagnosis.
- 2
Locate the pump filter access
Check your machine's manual for filter location—usually a small panel at the front base. Some models have a screwcap instead.
💡 Place towels on the floor first; water will spill.
- 3
Remove and inspect pump filter
Unscrew the filter cap anticlockwise and pull out the filter cartridge. Look for hair, coins, buttons, or lint blocking the mesh.
💡 Rinse the filter under clean running water to clear debris.
- 4
Check drain hose routing
Trace the drain hose from the machine to the standpipe or sink. Look for kinks, crushes, or sharp bends that restrict flow.
💡 Run your hand along the hose to feel for blockages.
- 5
Test hose for internal blockage
Disconnect the drain hose at both ends. Hold it up to a light and look through it. Pour water through to check flow.
💡 If water doesn't flow freely, the hose has an internal clog.
- 6
Listen for pump motor sound
Reassemble the filter, close the access panel, and plug the machine back in. Run a short drain cycle and listen for a humming sound from the pump area.
💡 No sound suggests a dead pump motor needing replacement.
