How to clean your Bosch washing machine filter
A blocked filter stops water draining and leaves clothes wet. Clean it every 1-2 months to keep your machine running smoothly.
Step-by-step
- 1
Switch off and unplug machine
Turn the power off at the wall socket. Wait 5 minutes for the system to depressurise.
💡 Never work on a plugged-in appliance.
- 2
Locate the filter access panel
Look at the bottom right of your Bosch washer. You'll see a small cover panel that twists or clips off.
💡 Consult your manual if you can't find it—panel location varies by model.
- 3
Place towel underneath panel
Water will spill when you open the filter. Lay a towel or place a shallow tray beneath.
- 4
Unscrew the filter slowly
Turn the filter anticlockwise by hand. Go slowly—residual water will leak out.
💡 If stuck, grip with a cloth for better traction.
- 5
Remove debris and rinse filter
Check inside the filter pocket for coins, threads, and lint. Rinse the filter under warm tap water.
💡 Use an old toothbrush to scrub stubborn buildup.
- 6
Clean the filter housing
Wipe the filter opening and housing with a damp cloth. Remove any debris left inside.
- 7
Screw filter back in clockwise
Insert the clean filter and turn clockwise until snug. Don't over-tighten.
💡 Hand-tight is sufficient—forcing it can strip the threads.
- 8
Replace the access panel
Snap or twist the cover back into place. Plug the machine back in.
- 9
Run a rinse cycle to test
Start a short rinse cycle to check for leaks around the filter area. Water should drain normally.
💡 If water pools, the filter may not be seated properly—repeat step 7.
