How to replace a Bosch dishwasher spray arm
A worn or broken spray arm reduces cleaning performance. This guide shows you how to replace it yourself in under 15 minutes.
Step-by-step
- 1
Turn off the dishwasher
Switch off the power at the wall socket. Allow 10 minutes for any residual water to drain from the system.
💡 Leave the door open to speed up cooling.
- 2
Remove the lower basket
Pull out the lower basket fully and set it aside on a clean surface. This gives you access to the lower spray arm.
💡 Check for food debris blocking the basket rails.
- 3
Locate the spray arm collar
Find the plastic collar at the base of the lower spray arm in the centre of the tub. It rotates anticlockwise to release.
💡 Use a torch to see the collar clearly if your dishwasher interior is dark.
- 4
Unscrew the collar anticlockwise
Grip the collar firmly and turn it anticlockwise by hand until it comes free. The spray arm will lift out once the collar is removed.
💡 If stuck, wrap a cloth around the collar for better grip.
- 5
Lift out the old spray arm
Pull the spray arm straight up and out of the tub. Check the connector hole for debris and clean if necessary.
- 6
Insert the new spray arm
Align the new spray arm post with the centre hole and push down firmly until seated. You should hear or feel a slight click.
💡 Ensure the arm sits flat and level in the tub.
- 7
Reattach the collar clockwise
Thread the collar back onto the post and turn clockwise by hand until tight. Do not overtighten or the plastic may crack.
💡 Stop when you feel resistance—hand-tight is sufficient.
- 8
Replace the lower basket
Slide the basket back in, ensuring it sits evenly on both rails. Check that the spray arm rotates freely without obstruction.
- 9
Test the dishwasher
Close the door, turn on the power, and run a short cycle to confirm the spray arm spins correctly and water jets out.
💡 Stop the cycle after 2 minutes if you spot leaks.
