How to replace a Bosch dishwasher door seal
A worn door seal causes water to leak during cycles. This repair takes 15 minutes and requires no special tools.
Step-by-step
- 1
Unplug the dishwasher
Switch off the power at the wall socket. Wait 2 minutes for any residual charge to dissipate.
💡 Always disconnect power before working on appliances.
- 2
Open the door fully
Pull the door open to 90 degrees. Locate the rubber seal running around the inner edge of the door.
- 3
Inspect the seal groove
Look at the channel where the seal sits. Check for debris, mould, or damage inside the groove.
💡 Clean the groove with a damp cloth before fitting the new seal.
- 4
Remove the old seal
Gently prise the seal out of its groove using your fingers or a plastic tool. Pull slowly to avoid damaging the groove.
💡 Start at a corner and work your way around the perimeter.
- 5
Clean the door frame
Wipe the entire groove with a dry cloth to remove dust and residue. Ensure the surface is completely clean and dry.
💡 Use a small brush to remove stubborn debris from the groove.
- 6
Position the new seal
Start at the top centre of the door frame. Press the new seal firmly into the groove, working outwards in both directions.
💡 Warm the seal slightly by hand if it's stiff—this makes fitting easier.
- 7
Secure the corners
Pay extra attention to the four corners where the seal meets. Press firmly and ensure there are no gaps or kinks.
💡 Overlap the ends of the seal by 10mm at the bottom where it joins.
- 8
Test the fit
Close the door gently and check for resistance. Open and close it twice more to ensure the seal sits correctly.
💡 The door should close smoothly without excessive force.
- 9
Reconnect the dishwasher
Plug the appliance back into the wall socket. Run a short cycle to check for leaks.
