How to descale a Bosch dishwasher
Limescale buildup reduces heating efficiency and spray arm performance. Descale your Bosch dishwasher every 3-6 months depending on water hardness.
Step-by-step
- 1
Empty the dishwasher completely
Remove all dishes, racks, and utensils. Ensure the interior is completely clear.
- 2
Pour descaling solution into dispenser
Use 250ml of white vinegar or commercial dishwasher descaler into the main wash dispenser. Close the dispenser door firmly.
💡 White vinegar is cost-effective for hard water areas; use it every other cycle.
- 3
Run the hottest cycle available
Select the longest, hottest wash programme (usually 70°C or higher). Do not add any detergent.
💡 Avoid quick wash cycles—they don't generate enough heat for effective descaling.
- 4
Wait for cycle to complete
Let the dishwasher run through the entire programme without interruption. This typically takes 2-3 hours.
- 5
Inspect spray arms and filter
Check the spray arm nozzles and filter basket for remaining limescale deposits. Use a toothpick to clear blocked nozzles if needed.
💡 Clear nozzles improve water distribution and cleaning performance.
- 6
Run a rinse cycle with water only
Run one more hot wash cycle with no detergent or descaler to flush away residue completely.
